It takes a lot for a restaurant to be considered an attraction in Seattle, but that’s exactly what you find in Dick’s Drive-In. Serving food since 1954, Dick’s Drive-In is THE local fast food joint in the Emerald City. Every Seattleite has eaten at Dick’s at some point (or at least they should have), and every tourist needs to stop by on their trip.

Dick's Drive-In

The menu at Dick’s Drive-In is pretty simple. You can order a Dick’s Deluxe (two beef patties, cheese, lettuce, mayonnaise, chopped pickles), Dick’s Special (one beef patty, lettuce, mayonnaise, chopped pickles), cheeseburger or hamburger (at a low price of $2.90 and $2.45, respectively). When it comes to burger choices — that’s it. Dick’s proudly boasts that their burgers are always fresh and never frozen.

If you want fries with your burger at Dick’s Drive-In, you have to order them separately. There’s no such thing as a “meal deal.” The fries at Dick’s are made from real potatoes and they’re hand cut every day. If you want any sauces for dipping, it’ll cost you (but not much). Ketchup, mustard and tartar sauce are an extra $.20 each.

While Dick’s Drive-In is famous for its burgers and fries, they’re also well-known for their old-fashioned hand-dipped milkshakes. Again, the choices are simple. You can only get chocolate, vanilla or strawberry shakes at Dick’s. The restaurant says every milkshake is individually hand-dipped to achieve an “old-fashioned creamy texture.” On top of milkshakes, Dick’s also serves ice cream, sundaes and floats.

There are several different Dick’s locations around Seattle. You can find Dick’s in Wallingford (the original Dick’s Drive-In), Queen Anne, Capitol Hill, Greenwood, Edmonds, Lake City and more. Dick’s is open seven days a week from 10:30am to 2am (perfect for the late night munchies).

I’m not a huge fast food guy but I definitely enjoy going to Dick’s Drive-In. I’d choose Dick’s over McDonald’s, Burger King or Jack in the Box every time. Dick’s Drive-In simply tastes better. You don’t only have to take my word for it either. Dick’s has been featured in numerous local and national publications, like Esquire and U.S. News & World Report. Above all else, Dick’s Drive-In is a Seattle icon. You don’t just simply receive that distinction — you earn it. And that’s exactly what Dick’s has done over the last 60+ years.

This is a stupid question, but have you ever eaten at Dick’s Drive-In? What is your favorite item on the menu? What’s your favorite memory at Dick’s? We’d love to hear from you!
