Seattle Center Winterfest | Can’t Miss Holiday Fun

Seattle Center Winterfest | Can’t Miss Holiday Fun

From late November to the end of December, Seattle Center transforms into a winter wonderland. With beautiful Christmas lights, ice skating, a toy train, special performances, and much more, Seattle Center Winterfest provides FREE and affordable, can’t miss holiday fun in the Emerald City! There’s no greater beacon of the Christmas spirit in Seattle than the Space Needle. With Christmas lights glowing 605-feet above the Emerald City, and a creative, circular (for lack of a better description) Christmas tree out front, the Space Needle is a perfect centerpiece to Seattle Center Winterfest. On top of the lights on the Space Needle, there are also Christmas lights on many of the trees around Seattle Center. It’s a perfect place for a holiday stroll. What are the holidays without some ice skating? They’re not the holidays at all! Take care of your ice skating itch at Seattle Center Winterfest. Fisher Pavilion transforms into a fun ice rink for all ages. This is the only part of Seattle Center Winterfest that isn’t...

Chihuly Garden and Glass Date Night

Chihuly Garden and Glass Date Night

If there’s one thing Tove and I have been itching to do since we both moved back to Seattle, it’s Chihuly Garden and Glass at Seattle Center. Just like everyone that walks by, we’ve stood on our tip-toes and looked through the bushes to see as much as we can. Thanks to an invite for a special event there recently, we finally had a chance to get inside and also eat at the exhibition’s Collections Cafe. It turned out to be an awesome night, so that’s why it’s the latest installment of It’s a Date! We suggest starting your Chihuly Garden and Glass date night at the exhibition itself. The museum shows off the artwork of Dale Chihuly throughout every stage of his distinguished glass blowing career. Take a walk through the exhibition hall, glasshouse, and the outdoor garden (which sits at the foot of the Space Needle — the one you’re always trying to peek into). A native to Tacoma, many of Chihuly’s masterpieces are inspired by his Northwest roots. With...

Emerald City Day Trip | Seattle Attractions Infographic

Emerald City Day Trip | Seattle Attractions Infographic

What would you do if you only had one day in Seattle? It’s a tough question to answer because there are so many incredible places to experience in the Emerald City. To help you narrow down your options, our friends at Marriott plotted out this great Seattle attractions infographic. It makes for a really fun Emerald City day trip. Take a look at what they’ve drawn together! With stops at Pike Place Market, The Great Wheel, the Boeing Airline Factory (we would offer up the Museum of Flight as a possible alternative), Mount Rainier National Park, and the Space Needle, the Seattle attractions infographic by Marriott features some of the top spots in the Emerald City. It even includes rides on a Washington State Ferry and the Seattle Monorail. It’s tough to beat that! We do want to point out that the time frame on the Seattle attractions infographic is pretty misleading. While Mount Rainier National Park should be on your list of things to do around Seattle, it’s tough to include that trek in a day trip. Mount Rainier National Park is more...

Bumbershoot | Music and Arts Festival in Seattle

Bumbershoot | Music and Arts Festival in Seattle

Nothing says Labor Day weekend in Seattle more than Bumbershoot. No, I didn’t just sneeze — Bumbershoot (another word for umbrella) is the name of Seattle’s largest music and arts festival, and it happens over the three-day holiday weekend every year (since 1971) at Seattle Center. It’s our can’t miss event of the year in Seattle. With more than 100 acts playing on 6 different stages, the highlight of Bumbershoot for us is the music. Bumbershoot claims to have the “most diverse and carefully curated musical lineups in the world.” From Grammy Award winners, to old-time rockers, to up-and-coming hip-hop artists, there truly is something for everyone at Bumbershoot (click here for the 2015 lineup). There’s a constant flow of music blaring through Seattle Center all weekend. Tove and I were only there for one day last year, and we got a taste of more than 10 different bands. While the festival does reel in national and international acts, it prides itself on showcasing local performers. While music is the...

Chow Down at the Bite of Seattle

Chow Down at the Bite of Seattle

You know it’s summer in Seattle when the Bite of Seattle rolls around. Held at the Seattle Center, this annual, three-day event is a time to let your taste buds do some experimenting.  The Bite of Seattle is always held in July, which means the hot Seattle sun is out in full force. Food booths fill the center, attracting people from all over the city. The food is delicious, sometimes crazy and wacky, and the options are endless. There are a lot of different types of food at the Bite of Seattle. You’ll find the very traditional fair food — corn dogs, curly fries, burgers, elephant ears, and strawberry lemonade. There’s also a great diversity of food. You’ll see everything from Cajun, Asian, BBQ, Thai, Russian and so much more. While some of the food booths appear to travel around from one festival to another, other booths represent a variety of local Seattle restaurants. Some of the highlights include Chutney’s Queen Anne, Wings & Rings, and Relish Burger Bistro. There...
