Yes, Starbucks started in Seattle but nothing about the chain feels local anymore. And honestly, there is much better coffee in the area. And we’d much rather support a local, family-owned coffee shop like Waterfront Coffee Company in Edmonds.

Waterfront Coffee Company is located just steps away from Brackett’s Landing near the Edmonds ferry. There’s plenty of seating indoors and they have a few tables outside as well. The colorful walls inside the cafe feature paintings from local artists that you can buy. Everything about this place screams local.

NOTE: Waterfront Coffee Company recently went through a beautiful remodel, making it even more amazing than before.

Waterfront Coffee Company

Sticking with the local theme, Waterfront Coffee Company serves roasted coffee from Caffe Vita in Seattle. They have fun names for their drink sizes. Instead of going with grande or venti, or 12-ounces and 16-ounces, using shrimp, clam (tall), oyster (grande) and geoduck (venti). They make everything from lattes to seasonal drinks to hot chocolate to fruit smoothies.

When it comes to their milk, they only use hormone free, antibiotic free and rBHT free milk, produced locally by Medosweet Farms in Kent.

Waterfront Coffee Company

On top of their drinks, Waterfront Coffee Company serves baked goods, including scones, muffins and cookies. They also have Mighty-O Donuts from Seattle and Blazing Bagels from Redmond. They also make breakfast and lunch. You can find organic homemade soups, panini sandwiches, and even bean burritos on the menu.

My favorite item is the handmade Russian piroshki. They are stuffed with beef and potato, chicken cabbage with mushroom, spinach and mushroom, or ham, bacon and cheese. What other coffee shop around Seattle serves piroshki?!

Waterfront Coffee Company

Oh, boy. I’m not done yet. Keeping with the local ties again, Waterfront Coffee Company also scoops up Snoqualmie Ice Cream. Salted caramel, buttered pecan, and mint chocolate chip were some of the flavors available when we stopped by there.

Local, local, local. That’s the name of the game here. Break away from your normal Starbucks routine and check this place out next time you’re in Edmonds. It’s well worth a visit. Did I mention they sell piroshki?!!!
