I love the city. I am mesmerized by the hustle and bustle. However, every once in a while it is good to get away from it all. Suncadia Resort is a perfect place for an escape. Surrounded by the Cascade Mountains, Suncadia is about an hour and a half east of Seattle. Whether you’re with a large group of friends, family, or significant other, Suncadia Resort is a fabulous weekend getaway.

Located just outside of Cle Elum, Suncadia is surrounded by forest land, full of wildlife and scenic views. While you feel like you’re in the middle of nowhere, there are plenty of modern-day amenities. There are two different hotels buildings and lots of vacation rental homes and condos. The hotels and homes are scattered across the resort so it feels like its your own little community.  I’ve visited Suncadia several times so I’ve had the opportunity to stay at a few different spots around the resort, including one of the hotels, some condos, and several vacation homes. Construction is all new at Suncadia, with stainless steel appliances, granite countertops, beautiful decor, and much more.

Rope Rider Golf Course

While the amenities are plentiful, the list of things to do outside is pretty incredible too. During the summer, you can go horseback riding, fly fishing, white water rafting, kayaking, rock climbing, bike riding (there are more than 40 miles of paved and unpaved trails) and hiking. There are also a few different pools (including some pretty neat slides), a spa, and several restaurants and bars. There is no way you can explore Suncadia in just one short weekend trip, but it’s a place you’ll want to visit over and over again.

On one of my trips to Suncadia Resort, I teamed up with my dad on the golf course and went head-to-head with my cousin Emma and her pops. Suncadia has three courses and we opted to play Rope Rider. The course is built along a few old Roslyn coal mines and it’s named after the miners who once balanced themselves on the roped coal cars that maneuvered the steep mine shafts. It was a beautiful course and an even better day. In early July, the temperatures were in the mid-to-upper 80s.

Another perk to Suncadia Resort is the pool. Like I mentioned, it gets hot in the summer, so pool time is a necessity. There are a few different pool options at Suncadia. If you’re visiting during the weekend, the pools will likely be busy, so I suggest arriving early to snag a chair. Fair warning: Suncadia is family friendly. At times, the pool can feel like a huge, crazy pool party for little kids. They’re all over the place. For some, this is great and for others it’s not so great. It just depends on what you’re looking for in a Seattle getaway.

While there are so many different things to do at Suncadia, the best part about this resort is the setting. As I mentioned before, Suncadia Resort is located in the heart of the Cascade Mountains. It’s breathtaking to sit out on the deck and look around. All you can see is miles and miles and miles of forest. I grew up in Western Washington, so I love being around this kind of environment. It’s a great place to take a deep breath from the busy city life.
