There’s nothing more appealing on a sunny day around the Puget Sound than a restaurant with outdoor seating. That’s exactly why we chose Mark Restaurant & Bar in Burien for lunch the other day.

On top of the outdoor tables at Mark, their front windows also open wide to let the sunshine and warmth into the bar area. With tables and stools right next to the windows, there’s plenty of outdoor-type seating at Mark.

Tove and I were pretty hungry, so we decided to order an appetizer. There were the common selections like calamari, potato skins, and chicken wings, but there was also one item that stood out to us — Markquittos. The appetizer is unique to Mark Restaurant & Bar (hence the name ‘Mark’quittos). They’re described as “crispy spring rolls filled with roasted chicken, fire-roasted red peppers, black beans, cilantro, sweet corn, jalapenos and Monterey Jack cheese.” The Markquittos were right on the mark (do you see what I did there?). They were really tasty!

As for our meals, I ordered the Olde Burien Grind (salami, prosciutto, and Black Forest ham with olive tapenade, brown mustard, and provolone cheese on ciabatta bread), while Tove went for the Ham & Swiss Melt (thinly sliced Black Forest ham with Swiss cheese on a French roll with lettuce and tomato). The sandwiches at Mark are served with fries unless you order a different side, like cole slaw or potato salad.

I want to mention this as well: the folks in Burien are very friendly. One woman said hello to us as she walked by on the sidewalk, while two young women sparked a conversation with us about the great outdoor seating at Mark Restaurant & Bar. Our server was also super nice and she was quick to fill up our water on a hot day.

The friendly atmosphere, tasty food, and outside seating highlight the experience at Mark Restaurant & Bar. It’s an ideal spot for after work drinks and/or happy hour during the summer months in Burien. You should definitely give it a shot when you’re in the area.
