Tove and I aren’t huge planners, so we always take a “let’s wing it” attitude for our dates. We usually pick a place to start and then simply see where the fun takes us after that. That’s exactly what we did recently for our Capitol Hill date night, and as usual, it turned out to be an awesome experience.
NOTE: We’ve been told that Seattle Bloggers is great for date ideas, but we’ve never written an actual “date night” post until now. Here’s the good news — there are plenty more to come. This is our first installment of It’s a Date!, a new series that will feature our fun dates around Seattle and elsewhere.
We started our Capitol Hill date night at Taylor Shellfish. Tove and I are crazy about oysters and we heard nothing but great things about this place. It definitely lived up to the hype. We ordered 18 oysters (some of the freshest we’ve had in Seattle), a cup of oyster stew, and a couple of beers. Before, during, or after your meal, be sure to check out all the shellfish in the restaurant’s live holding tanks. Taylor Shellfish literally takes shellfish from their farms around the Puget Sound directly to their restaurant on Capitol Hill. It’s a real “tideland-to-table” experience. After we devoured our food and enjoyed the fun atmosphere at Taylor Shellfish, it was time to move on.
Tove and I had talked about going bowling for a long time, so we decided to cruise up the street to the Garage. This might be the coolest bowling alley in Seattle — mostly because you have to be 21-or-older to roll there. If you’re a professional bowler — this probably isn’t the place for you. If you’re out for a good time on a Capitol Hill date night (which is why you’re reading this post) — you’ve found your spot! On top of bowling, there’s also a HUGE billiards room and a restaurant at the Garage (which will serve food directly to your lane).
The night was still relatively young by the time we walked out of the Garage, so we strolled down the street to Poquitos. Tove had been there before, but this was my first visit. It was a Wednesday night and the place was packed (it honestly looked and felt like a Friday or Saturday night there). Tove and I found some perches at the bar and ordered margaritas. After a grueling bowling session, we worked up an appetite, so we also snagged some appetizers. We went with ceviche and made-to-order guacamole. Both were awesome! It was a perfect way to wrap up our Capitol Hill date night.
If you’re newly dating or you’ve been married for 30 years, this Capitol Hill date night is perfect for you. It truly is for anyone and everyone. There’s a chance for good conversation at Taylor Shellfish, some innocent fun at the bowling alley, and a solid nightcap at Poquitos. Where the night takes you after that — we don’t want to hear about it. 🙂
