Neve Camp | North Cascades Backpacking

Neve Camp | North Cascades Backpacking

Over the river and through the woods to Neve Camp we go! Located just 2.5 miles down Thunder Creek trail in North Cascades National Park, Neve Camp (pronounced nev-AY) is a backcountry backpacking adventure that doesn’t require much effort. Sure, it’s not for everyone – being such a short hike and all. But it was perfect for Tove and me over Memorial Day weekend. We’re beginners when it comes to backpacking, so Neve Camp was a great place to get our feet wet. Although it’s less than three miles from Colonial Creek Campground (where you park for this backpacking adventure – map), you still feel like you’re out in the wilderness. The path down to Neve Camp is well off the main trail and it sits right along Thunder Creek (the video above shows that it runs more like a river than a creek). There is only room for five tents at Neve Camp, and the designated camping spots are spaced out so it doesn’t feel crowded at all....

Best Places to Watch New Year’s Eve Fireworks in Seattle

Best Places to Watch New Year’s Eve Fireworks in Seattle

There’s no better way to ring in the New Year than watching fireworks shoot off the Space Needle. You can see the iconic landmark all over the city, but some spots are much better than others. Here’s our list of the best places to watch New Year’s Eve fireworks in Seattle. Best Places to Watch New Year’s Eve Fireworks in Seattle Seattle Center There’s no better place to watch the New Year’s Eve fireworks in Seattle than the home of the Space Needle itself. You have great views of the Space Needle all over Seattle Center, and the city also shuts down the streets in front of the Space Needle before midnight. So…grab a drink in Belltown, stroll to Seattle Center, and enjoy the fireworks show. If you don’t mind spending money, you can check out the New Year’s Eve celebration at Chihuly Garden and Glass. Families can also explore Seattle Center Winterfest. NOTE: The featured video for this post was captured across the street from the Space Needle at KOMO Plaza. Kerry...

KEXP Gathering Space | Live Music & Great Coffee

The KEXP Gathering Space offers awesome live music and incredible coffee in the heart of Seattle. Click here to find upcoming live performances at the KEXP Gathering Space. There’s nothing like spending a Monday afternoon with ‘The Screaming Eagle of Soul’ @Charles_Bradley! Thanks, @KEXP! pic.twitter.com/fPSMNR9z7X — Tim Lewis (@LewisSports) May 23, 2016 You can find the KEXP Gathering Space at the KEXP studios at 472 1st Ave N (map). In other words, near the Seattle Center. It’s an intimate space for a live concert, allowing around 380 people. The shows are FREE, open to the public, and welcome all ages and even pets. I have seen a few live performances at the KEXP Gathering Space, including Charles Bradley and Shovels & Rope. It’s not a full show, but the performers still play four or five songs. That means the acts last about 20-25 minutes. On top of live music, the KEXP Gathering Space also includes our favorite coffee shop in Seattle: La Marzocco. Every month, La Marzocco features a...

Honolua Bay | Best Snorkeling in Maui

Honolua Bay | Best Snorkeling in Maui

There’s no better activity in Maui than snorkeling, and there’s no better place to snorkel in Maui than Honolua Bay. Yeah, I understand the best snorkeling in Maui is up for debate. There are a ton of great options. We’ve snorkeled at Black Rock, Turtle Town, and several other locations, but Honolua Bay tops our list. Honolua Bay is located about 15 minutes north of Ka’anapali (where we stayed on our visits to Maui). Be warned that parking is limited (get there early), and you have to walk a short trail through the forest to reach the beach. We saw people posting up for the day there, but the shore is rocky and not a typical sandy Maui beach. Also note that the property owners (it’s private property that’s open to the public) don’t want you to wear sunscreen when you visit (to help protect the coral). While there are a few small issues, Honolua Bay is definitely worth a visit (no matter where you’re staying on the island)....

Queen’s Guard Marching from Buckingham Palace

Queen’s Guard Marching from Buckingham Palace

My mom and I were unintentionally (believe it or not) in London for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in 2012. It was an amazing event to be in England for, but it did have its limitations. Buckingham Palace was blocked off, so we never got a good look at it. To make up for that, my mom and I did get to see other things that people don’t normally see in London, including the Queen’s Guard marching from Buckingham Palace. After my mom and I found out that Buckingham Palace was blocked off, we stopped for a traditional English breakfast at a nearby restaurant. After we finished eating, we walked back outside and noticed people had lined up along the street. We figured something cool must be happening, so we decided to stick around. Not long after we posted up, we saw the Queen’s Guard marching from Buckingham Palace. I figured this was a pretty rare occasion, so I grabbed my cell phone and got video of them. My mom and I had...
