Puget Sound Express Whale Watching Tour

Puget Sound Express Whale Watching Tour

You can go to the zoo or aquarium these days and see just about any creature you want. Bears, sharks, gorillas — anything. There’s one thing you won’t find, though (unless you’re at SeaWorld) — whales. The only place you get to see whales are in the wild, and even then they’re really tough to find (because they spend 98% of their lives underwater). That’s what makes seeing a whale really, really special. I’ve only spotted a handful in my lifetime, but thanks to our Puget Sound Express whale watching tour, Tove and I were recently able to see them again. Puget Sound Express operates out of Edmonds and Port Townsend (less than two hours away from Seattle on the Olympic Peninsula). We just spent a random early spring weekend in Port Townsend, which is a fun little coastal town. From the hotel, to the food, to the recreation — everything was awesome. When we were driving home, I started to ask Tove what her favorite part of the weekend was, but I cut myself off before I even finished the question....

The Palace Hotel in Port Townsend

The Palace Hotel in Port Townsend

On a whim, Tim and I decided to spend a weekend in Port Townsend. We didn’t even plan ahead, including booking a place to stay. I’m so glad we did because the Palace Hotel in Port Townsend is the most unique hotel I’ve ever experienced. When we arrived at the lobby, the guy at the front desk gave us a list of about seven or eight rooms that were available for...

Ten Reasons to Visit Port Townsend

Ten Reasons to Visit Port Townsend

We just returned from a random weekend in Port Townsend, which is a small coastal town on the northeast tip of the Olympic Peninsula in Washington. It was a last-minute trip and we didn’t plan anything (including booking a place to stay). We just hopped in our car and drove! What we founded was an incredible community that was welcoming, relaxing and a lot of fun. Here is our list of ten reasons to visit Port Townsend (in no particular order): 1. Nearby: It doesn’t take long to get to Port Townsend. The trek is less than two hours from downtown Seattle. The trip includes an easy (and fun) 30 minute ferry ride from Seattle to Bainbridge Island. From there, Port Townsend is only about a 45 mile drive. 2. Peace and Quiet: While Port Townsend is easy to get to, it is still far enough from the city that you really feel away from it all. If you’re looking for a fast pace weekend trip in the heart of a big city, then...
