Agua Verde Paddle Club | Kayaking in Seattle

Agua Verde Paddle Club | Kayaking in Seattle

Seattle is surrounded and full of water. When the sun comes out, the water comes to life. That’s why Tim and I love to go kayaking in Seattle. While there a number of different places to rent kayaks in the city, one of our favorite spots is Agua Verde Paddle Club. EDITOR’S NOTE: In addition to kayak rentals, Agua Verde also makes some of the best Mexican food in town. We’re going to focus on the kayaking in this post, but if you’re looking for a run down on their delicious food, check out this post by Tim.  Agua Verde Cafe & Paddle Club (1307 NE Boat St) is located on Portage Bay, between Lake Union and Lake Washington. This location is key. If you head east from the dock, you can kayak through the Montlake Cut and paddle around Washington Park Arboretum (which is beautiful). There are several quiet and fun waterways that take you around the park, including into Duck Bay, Union Bay, around Marsh Island and Foster Island. If you head...

May Kitchen + Bar | Best Thai Food in Seattle

May Kitchen + Bar | Best Thai Food in Seattle

While it’s not technically located within the Seattle city limits, May Kitchen + Bar is worthy of the title best Thai food in Seattle. It’s totally worth the drive and ferry ride to Vashon Island. Just to clarify — I’m not joking — the best Thai food in Seattle is served on Vashon Island. This small restaurant is  named after founder, owner, and chef May Chaleoy. Not only is she the nicest  lady, she’s also one heck of a cook.  Tim and  I haven’t spent much time on Vashon Island, but that will be changing now that we’ve discovered May Kitchen + Bar. Vashon Island is not very far from Seattle and it’s very charming.  From the Fauntleroy ferry dock (located in West Seattle, near Lincoln Park), the ride to the island is just 20 minutes. Ferry departures vary throughout the year, so make sure you check the schedule online. Our friend Kaarin, who met us for dinner, lives in Tacoma and took the ferry to Vashon Island from Point Defiance (the schedule is here). You...

Ponti Seafood Grill | Classic Seafood Dinner in Seattle

Ponti Seafood Grill | Classic Seafood Dinner in Seattle

There’s nothing better than a good seafood dinner overlooking the water in Seattle. Ponti Seafood Grill has been serving that up since 1990. When the classic Seattle restaurant invited us out for dinner, we excitedly said yes! With a great view, oh-so-fun patio and staple seafood dishes, Tim and I loved our night at Ponti. The first thing we fell in love with at Ponti Seafood Grill (3014 3rd Ave N) is the patio and view. It’s located right along the Lake Washington Ship Canal, across the water from Fremont. During the spring, the patio is surrounded with flowers and offers the perfect amount of shade from a warm evening. We watched boats sail by and the sun set on the city. It made the setting perfect for a date night out on the town. While the main indoor dining room was intimate, don’t be fooled by its size. Ponti has several other rooms (and even another patio) that get filled up quickly on busy nights and for private events. There...

It’s a Date! | Bainbridge Island Day Trip

It’s a Date! | Bainbridge Island Day Trip

While there are so many fun things to do on a date in Seattle, getting out of the city can be just as fun. Tim and I love hopping on a ferry and taking a ride across the bay to Bainbridge Island. The view of the Seattle skyline, the fresh air, the tasty food and exciting adventures make a Bainbridge Island day trip a great date. That’s why it’s our latest installment of It’s a Date! The great part about Bainbridge Island is that it feels far away, but it’s so close! It’s only a 30 minute ferry ride from Seattle. Ferries depart from the Seattle waterfront several times a day. Departure times change depending on the season, so we suggest checking the schedule online before you leave. You can either drive or walk onto the ferry. Tim and I have done both. There are plenty of great things to do on a Bainbridge Island day trip whether you take your car or go by foot. When you’re on the...
