Capitol Hill Date Night | Oysters, Margaritas & Bowling

Capitol Hill Date Night | Oysters, Margaritas & Bowling

Tove and I aren’t huge planners, so we always take a “let’s wing it” attitude for our dates. We usually pick a place to start and then simply see where the fun takes us after that. That’s exactly what we did recently for our Capitol Hill date night, and as usual, it turned out to be an awesome experience. NOTE: We’ve been told that Seattle Bloggers is great for date ideas, but we’ve never written an actual “date night” post until now. Here’s the good news — there are plenty more to come. This is our first installment of It’s a Date!, a new series that will feature our fun dates around Seattle and elsewhere. We started our Capitol Hill date night at Taylor Shellfish (1521 Melrose Ave.). Tove and I are crazy about oysters and we heard nothing but great things about this place. It definitely lived up to the hype. We ordered 18 oysters (some of the freshest we’ve had in Seattle), a cup of oyster stew, and a...

Taylor Shellfish | Fresh Oysters on Capitol Hill

Taylor Shellfish | Fresh Oysters on Capitol Hill

Taylor Shellfish boasts “the freshest shellfish you’ll ever eat,” which is a statement that’s hard to argue. The family operated company literally takes oysters, clams, and geoducks from their farms straight to the tables of their restaurant on Capitol Hill. Serving the Puget Sound for more than 120 years, Taylor Shellfish (the largest producer of Manila clams and geoducks in the United States) has farms from Hood Canal to Vancouver Island. They provide shellfish to restaurants all over the world, including several hot spots in Seattle. You can find Taylor Shellfish at The Walrus and The Carpenter, Elliott’s Oyster House, Ma’ono, and many more. Taylor Shellfish also serves up fresh shellfish at their spot on Capitol Hill, but that’s not how business originally started there. The company opened the Melrose Market location (1521 Melrose Ave.) to be their “premier “tidelands-to-table” retail experience,” offering farm raised shellfish and other local specialties for folks to take home. But as they explain on their menu, “the temptation of fresh shucked oysters was...

Westward | A Unique Dining Experience in Seattle

Westward | A Unique Dining Experience in Seattle

With a stunning view of Seattle, fun outdoor seating, a buzzing atmosphere, and tasty food, Westward is one of the top new restaurants in the United States — not just the Emerald City. That’s not just me saying that, either — Bon Appetit recently named Westward one of the best new restaurants in America. GQ did, too. If it’s not GQ and Bon Appetit boasting about Westward, it’s the New York Times, USA Today, and even us — the Seattle Bloggers. Everyone is raving about Westward. There’s good reason Westward is receiving so much hype. It all starts with the atmosphere. Located on the north shore of Lake Union (2501 N. Northlake Way), Westward is a  has an incredible view of the Seattle skyline. You’re not trapped inside to enjoy the view, either. Westward has an outdoor bar, Adirondack chairs sitting on a beach (full service seating), and large community tables on an outdoor patio. On a sunny day in Seattle, Westward is alive with activity. Inside the restaurant, you’ll find marine-themed...

Olympia Day Trip | Getaway to the State Capital

Olympia Day Trip | Getaway to the State Capital

Tove and I have both called Washington home for most of our lives, but we’ve rarely visited Olympia. Sure, we went to the Washington State Capitol when we were kids, but we never really enjoyed everything the city has to offer. Well, we recently decided to change that by taking a day trip Olympia. What we found was a fun, beautiful, unique area that we’d like to visit again and again. Below are the highlights of our Olympia day trip! Olympia Day Trip Darby’s Cafe Tove and I randomly saw Darby’s Cafe (211 5th Ave. SE) on Diners, Drive-In and Dives, so it was the first stop on our Olympia day trip. The atmosphere (very alternative) was just like we saw on television, and the food was just as good as we’d hoped. I ordered the Oysters Creole (hand-dipped chicken fried oysters, grilled red pepper rings and poached eggs on an English muffin, topped with a creamy creole sauce), while Tove went for the Joey vs the Volcano omelet (spicy...

It’s a Date! | Bainbridge Island Day Trip

It’s a Date! | Bainbridge Island Day Trip

While there are so many fun things to do on a date in Seattle, getting out of the city can be just as fun. Tim and I love hopping on a ferry and taking a ride across the bay to Bainbridge Island. The view of the Seattle skyline, the fresh air, the tasty food and exciting adventures make a Bainbridge Island day trip a great date. That’s why it’s our latest installment of It’s a Date! The great part about Bainbridge Island is that it feels far away, but it’s so close! It’s only a 30 minute ferry ride from Seattle. Ferries depart from the Seattle waterfront several times a day. Departure times change depending on the season, so we suggest checking the schedule online before you leave. You can either drive or walk onto the ferry. Tim and I have done both. There are plenty of great things to do on a Bainbridge Island day trip whether you take your car or go by foot. When you’re on the...
